Fractional Lasers – Why we use it and what does it do?

You all have probably noticed one thing that sets us apart from other clinics is our use of fractional lasers. So the question is what does it do and why do we use it?

Fractional lasers have become a common treatment in medspas, dermatologist offices, and medical practices for their incredible results in skin rejuvenation, skin repair, and anti-aging capabilities. Also well known for the treatment of scars. Fractional lasers have many uses!

How do they work underneath the skin?

Fractional lasers are non-ablative as they produce a photo-mechanical effect. In a sense they will cause a controlled disruption in the skin which does cause pinpoint bleeding to the surface which is why fractional can get confused for an ablative treatment. The disruption causes the skin to respond by repairing the area, which in this layer of the skin means it will produce collagen and elastin. It also will increase blood circulation to the area because the oxygen in our blood is what supports cellular metabolism, collagen synthesis, and tissue repair. Like any treatment this takes time to see results but it works. Its reparative capabilities have allowed us to take on even the hardest cases of previously treated tattoos with scarring or pigmentation issues and give clients hope again. When used correctly fractional lasers can distress the scar tissue which encourages the body to essentially re-heal the area in a more organized fashion. The skin layers not effected by the fractional laser can still absorb the heat produced, which then can activate skin stem cells to stimulate new collagen growth. The skin and human body is capable of amazing things if the right tools and techniques are used which is why we have never given up on a tattoo!

So why do we pair this with our treatments for laser tattoo removal?

For starters blood circulation is what carries the tattoo ink particles out of our body through the lymphatic system so increasing the blood circulation not only aids in the removal of the ink, but it helps the area heal faster.

That aside, one of the main reasons we incorporate Fractional laser into every single treatment is because it helps release the heat trapped underneath of the skin. Your body’s natural response to the ink shattering will be to produce heat, and trapped heat is generally what forms a blister on the skin. Although this is pretty common and normal in laser tattoo removal, we incorporate fractional laser at no additional cost in every treatment to alleviate side effects and provide clients with a smoother healing process. Statistically we have decreased the chance of blistering by 85%. Easier aftercare = less likelihood of imperfections in the skin. What a lot of people do not realize is improper aftercare can lead to scarring or issues with pigmentation so it is equally as important for our clients at home to follow aftercare as it is for us to provide safe treatments!
