At Think Again Tattoo Removal we will never promise a number of treatments as this would be dishonest. We can never insure an exact number because there's many factors that contribute to each individual and their tattoo, most of which we have no control over. What we can believe is the most safe and effective treatments for your entire journey with us. Lets walk through all the factors that vary on each tattoo and how they affect the process.
Depth of the ink
One of our biggest, and most misunderstood factors is the density of the ink. It is not the size of the tattoo that matters, it is how deep and dense the ink is inside of the dermis. We are working in layers with every single treatment, so the more ink sitting in the dermis means more treatments to fully remove and vice versa. A lot of clients will question why a small tattoo is taking long to remove but it is not due to the size of the tattoo, it is how deep it is inside of the skin! It is a concept that is hard to understand, see the photo below for a better visual representation of where tattoos typically reside. Keep in mind tattoos are not done by a machine so the density and depth solely depend on each individual artists technique.

This leads us to the age of the tattoo. This can tie in with density because newer tattoos typically are much more dense inside of the skin than say a 10 year old tattoo. Over the years your body will naturally slowly start breaking down tattoo ink which is why you will notice the tattoo start to fade. Some more than others but generally speaking older tattoos are less dense than a new tattoo. You can still very effectively treat a new tattoo; it just means it may require more treatments than an older tattoo would have! If you have a new tattoo that you've regretted you can actually start treating just 4 weeks after!
Why would the location matter?
The location on the body is very important. Our blood circulation is what is carrying the ink particles out of the body through the lymphatic system, so each individual is going to be moving at a different pace. The closer the tattoo is to the heart, generally the faster the removal process will go because of the speed of the blood circulation. Further away locations such as hands and feet generally are removed at a slower rate due to decreased blood circulation speed in these areas.

Does the color of ink matter?
Color of tattoo inks is largely important to understand. Black tattoo ink is the easiest color to treat because it can absorb our laser the best. Colored inks reflect more of the light causing them to absorb less light meaning slower fading. Unfortunately this is just the reality of colored ink while many question if you can just increase settings to break up more ink, this could cause damage to the skin or ink and in turn make it even harder to treat in the future. Just understanding if you have colors such as; blue, green and purples it will generally take longer to remove. Luckily we have the best laser for tattoo removal on the market and can treat any color of ink with three true wavelengths!
What is in your ink and why does it matter?
Manufacturers of tattoo inks are not required to reveal the contents. Tattoo inks may be made from titanium dioxide, lead, chromium, nickel, iron oxides, ash, carbon black, and other ingredients. Among the most popular pigments are those made from acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), a type of heat-resistant plastic that is used to make luggage, pipe fittings, appliance parts, and, when ground down, tattoo inks. These inks are popular because they produce vivid colours. Our bodies struggle to break down many of these ingredients, which as a result requires many laser removal sessions to be completely removed.
What about dark skin?
All skin tones can be treated with laser tattoo removal; however, each client’s treatment process will have to be tailored exclusively to their individual skin tone. Darker skin contains more pigment (melanin), so care must be taken by the laser specialist when choosing the power settings, to ensure that the laser does not mistake the skin pigment for ink, which may result in pigmentation issues and skin color loss. Our clients can have peace of mind at Think Again Tattoo Removal that they are in safe hands with our knowledgeable Laser Specialists.

Looking after yourself helps your tattoo removal.
Another factor that is often overlooked is your personal lifestyle. Find a deeper explanation on this topic here: How Can A Healthy Lifestyle Speed Up Your Tattoo Removal?. As we are using the immune system and blood flow to remove the ink in your tattoo, the more you look after your body the easier it will be to remove your tattoo. We aren’t telling you to run a marathon or drastically change your diet, but small changes such as taking vitamins, exercising more and quitting smoking will be nothing but beneficial for your tattoo removal treatments and post-care.
Have you been treated before?
If you have been treated for laser tattoo removal prior to visiting our clinic you will need to be aware of the possible complications concerning your removal.
Unfortunately not all tattoo removal lasers being used on the market are safe or effective for tattoo removal. With this in mind, not all laser operators are experienced in how to achieve a complete removal safely and effectively. We have seen the damage that many other clinics have caused and unfortunately for our clients once their is any damage in your skin, providing a complete removal of your tattoo becomes far more difficult. It is important to make the right choice from the start ensuring you are confident the clinic you choose can provide a complete removal for you.

This Client was treated 6 times at another clinic prior to starting treatment at Think Again Tattoo Removal
We have many clients who have been treated elsewhere before coming to Think Again and unfortunately they present their skin to us that has visual damage (pigmentation or scarring).
At Think Again we are constantly developing our treatment plans to ensure our clients are getting the most out of their tattoo removal sessions.
While we are unable to predict the exact number of sessions you will need, our Laser Specialists will make an educated estimate based on their professional opinion and previous treatments, taking into consideration all of the factors such as location, age, color, lifestyle, skin tone, previous treatments – a specialist will be able to provide you with an expectation for your individual tattoo during your consultation.
