This is a very common misconception but as usual we are here to educate! The size of your tattoo unfortunately won’t affect how long it takes to remove.
It is not uncommon for people to present to the clinic with tiny tattoo with the hope that only 1-2 treatments will do the job. Unfortunately that’s just not how it works.
Why?
Because Laser Tattoo Removal works in layers. The more ink there is inside of the skin, the more treatments you will require for full removal. To make it easier, think about depth in measurement and not surface size. Technically speaking we can remove a sleeve just as quickly as a dot of tattoo ink.
Not all ink can be treated in one setting due to the depth, penetration, density and many other factors! It is physically impossible (along with incredibly unsafe) to penetrate through every layer of ink in one sitting.
The good news is this means very large tattoos can be removed just as quickly as relatively small ones. We only ever treat an area once during the advised 6-8 weeks. Provided we can cover the area once in that time, we can process large tattoos just as fast as the small intricate ones that are more common to come through the clinic.
That being said, due to circulation in the limbs, some large tattoos such as sleeves or tattoos that wrap completely around a limb do need to be treated in sections due to swelling so we do not create a risk of decreased blood circulation in the area.
Some of our clients choose to treat all their tattoos in one session, provided it is safe and others opt to treat in sections or just one tattoo at a time.
